The Ministry of Transportation is represented in the following International Bodies:
· International Maritime Organization (IMO) Our country has confirmed a great deal of Conventions, agreed upon in the framework of the IMO:
- International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS 74);
- International Marine Pollution Convention (MARPOL 73/78);
- Convention to facilitate the international maritime traffic (FAL/65);
- Convention on the International Rules to prevent the boardings, (COLREG 1972);
- International Convention on cargo lines, 1966;
- International Convention on Tonnage of Ships, 1969;
- International Convention related to Participation at high seas in cases of a pollution by hydrocarbon, 1969;
- International Convention on the safety of containers, 1972;
- Constituent Convention of the International Marine Satellite Organization(INMARSAT);
- International Convention on training standards, qualification and guard for the seamen, (STCW 78/95);
- Convention on the prevention of marine pollution by spilling wastes and other matters, 1972;
- International Convention on Marine Search and Rescue, which was just confirmed by Cuba (July/98) and;
- The Annex V to MARPOL Convention is in the process of approval.
· Latin American Association of Railways (ALAF).
· Association of the Pan American Congress of Railways (ACPF).
· International Organization for Survey and Classification of Vessels.
· International Association of Pilots (IMPA).
· World Association of Highways (PIARC).
Besides, along with other Bodies of the State Central Administration, it takes part in:
Association of Caribbean States (ACS) together with the MINREX (Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development together with the MINREX.
World Trade Organization (WTO) together with the MINCEX (Ministry for Foreign Trade).
